Ladydi’s Fast & Easy Italian Marinara Gravy

Ladydi’s Fast & Easy Italian Marinara Gravy

Cook 20 to 30 minutes on Stove in 4 Quart Saucepan

This is a basic fast and easy recipe that you can change to suit your family’s tastes. You can also use this basic recipe to make gravy with meatballs, sausage etc.

Ingredients:

1 - 29 oz can of Hunts Tomato Sauce (or your favorite brand)

1 - 29 oz can of Hunts Tomato Puree (or your favorite brand)

Olive oil

2 - cloves of fresh garlic peeled and minced

2 cloves of fresh garlic peeled and cut in half

dried basil, parsley and a pinch of oregano (you can also use fresh)

Sugar (if desired) I usually don’t put it unless it is bitter

1 lb. of your favorite regular or gluten free spaghetti or pasta

Grated Locatelli or Parmesan cheese for pasta

4 Quart Saucepan to cook gravy on stove…..I use my stainless steel saucepan.

Another large pot to boil water for pasta.

Directions:

Before you start fill your large pot with water (and salt…I do not salt my water) and bring to a boil for when you cook your pasta.  Next…open the can of sauce and puree and put them to the side.

Put some olive oil in the bottom of your 4 quart sauce pan (about 1 to 2 tablespoons)….add all the garlic to the pan and sauté slightly over medium high heat stirring so it doesn’t burn.  Cook about 1 minute….add the dried basil, parsley, and oregano.  Stir to blend and cook about 30 seconds more to bring out all the flavors of the spices.  Don’t cook long…you don’t want to burn it.

Add the can of sauce and puree….stirring to mix well.  I then fill each can about 1/4 with water and rinse it around the can to get all the “extra” sauce,  then pour that into the gravy on the stove.  If it looks too thick for your liking you can add a little more water.  Let the gravy simmer on low, uncovered, about 20 to 30 minutes, stirring and  tasting to adjust the spices. You can add salt, pepper and even crushed red pepper flakes if you like it hot!

When the pot of water on the stove is boiling add your favorite pasta!  By the time the pasta is done your gravy will be ready.  Drain pasta and put in large bowl with marinara sauce and sprinkle with grated cheese!  ENJOY!!!!
